What does CCS2 Charger mean?

The CCS2 charger is a charging standard, which is the second version of the Combined Charging System (CCS). The CCS standard combines direct current fast charging and alternating current slow charging interfaces into one, hence it is called the Combined Charging System. The CCS standard is widely used in Europe and America, with CCS1 primarily used in the United States and CCS2 primarily used in Europe.

The European electric vehicle charging standard CCS2 is a combined standard that integrates AC charging and DC charging. The combined charging system is an open international standardized system mainly promoted by Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Daimler, Ford, General Motors, Porsche and Volkswagen. Vehicles exported to Europe need to meet their physical interface and communication requirements.

As an upgrade to CCS, CCS2 also supports alternating current charging and direct current fast charging. However, compared to CCS1, it has improvements in charging plugs and other aspects. CCS2 chargers can simulate parameters and operating conditions of electric vehicles in both normal and fault states, monitor and control the entire charging process’s operation data, and cooperate with and diagnose the entire charging behavior of direct current charging stations during the charging process.

The emergence of the CCS2 charging standard is mainly to meet the demand for fast charging of electric vehicles. By using CCS2 charger, vehicle owners can obtain more electricity in a shorter time at fast charging stations or public charging stations.
